Despite Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova having a battle for titles on and off the court, Williams is only showing support right now for Sharapova after her recent failed drug test at the Australia Open. Sharapova admitted to testing positive to a banned drug before playing a match against Williams.
Williams says she was shocked to hear the news about Sharapova but was proud of her for taking responsibility. “As Maria said, she’s ready to take full responsibility,” Williams said. “She showed a lot of courage and a lot of heart. I think she’s always shown courage and heart in everything she’s done, and this is no different.” Williams also hoped everyone in the situation well.
Is that isn’t good sportsmanship than I don’t know what is!
The feud between these two is no secret. Sharapova and Williams have had a lot of negative comments towards one another, especially after play each other one the court. Instead of adding fuel to the fire, Williams showed a great respect toward Sharapova in this hard time.
